A stitch in time
Choosing the right KPIs is easy. Looking at them on schedule is the work.
Read articleDebbie Hylander brings thirty-plus years of CPA expertise and an active profitability practice to entrepreneurs and small-business owners. Tax planning, cash flow, and forward-looking decisions sit in one place, with a team that drives bottom-line results rather than just keeping the books clean.
Debbie’s firm works across owner-operated businesses, with deep experience in medical practices, real estate investors, and professional services companies. The three situations below cover where most engagements begin.
Revenue is climbing and the team is expanding. The financial infrastructure that worked at the early stage starts to creak. Forecasting, profitability tracking, and decision-grade reporting need to catch up to the business.
Learn more →The business is making money, but the owner cannot point to which services, products, or clients are driving the profit. Real dashboards and a profitability lens make the picture readable and the next move obvious.
Learn more →A sale, an acquisition, a partner change, or a succession plan is on the horizon. Clean books, a defensible financial story, and a steady hand at the tax and cash flow questions matter more than ever.
Learn more →Most owner-operators pay several professionals for financial advice. The CPA closes the year. The bookkeeper enters transactions. Each one is competent inside their lane, yet none of them owns the integrated picture.
Tax decisions get made without the cash flow context. Profitability slips through gaps nobody is responsible for closing, and money is quietly left on the table that a coordinated approach to your financial strategy would have captured.
How We Fix This
Debbie and her team take ownership of the integrated financial picture. Tax compliance, profitability strategy, and reporting all run through one fractional CFO relationship, with a deliberate focus on driving bottom-line growth, not just producing clean financial statements.
Debbie Hylander is a CPA with more than thirty years of accounting experience, much of it inside public practice serving entrepreneurs and privately held companies. She built her firm on the conviction that an accountant should help the owner actually grow profits, not simply close the books each month.
Her work draws on deep tax compliance experience across federal and multi-state returns, rental real estate, and like-kind exchanges, supported by a team of tax, accounting, and client-relationship specialists at Hylander CPA Firm.
Ashley joined Hylander CPA Firm in February 2017 as an intern. She began as the firm’s bookkeeper and is now a tax specialist. Her responsibilities include building client relationships, tax preparation, and managing the firm’s bookkeeping department. Ashley earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Management at Christian Brothers University.
With over twenty years of experience in the accounting industry, Nicole is a dedicated bookkeeper and accountant committed to helping businesses achieve financial clarity and long-term success. She specializes in accounting and payroll services, providing accurate, reliable financial support that lets business owners focus on growing their operations with confidence. Nicole joined Hylander CPA Firm in February 2026.
Helen joined Hylander CPA Firm in February 2015. Her duties include managing client relationships and communications as well as the office and the accountants in it. Helen’s thirty years of experience in customer service and her genuine desire to please others have helped her grow into her role. Helen received her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Memphis.
The intake conversation is short and focused on the questions that matter most to the owner. Most engagements move from a discovery call to active work within a week or two. When a tax deadline or a transaction is in motion, Debbie can compress that timeline further.
Yes. The firm’s fit is generally owner-operated businesses in the one to ten million dollar revenue range. Debbie’s experience runs across medical practices, real estate investors, and professional services companies, though the underlying financial discipline carries over to other industries. Engagement levels are designed for businesses at this stage.
No. The fractional CFO work sits alongside an accountant or bookkeeper, not in place of one. If a business already has a CPA or in-house bookkeeper they trust, Debbie coordinates with them. If the business needs that capacity too, the team at Hylander CPA Firm can provide it.
A consultant delivers a project and moves on. A fractional CFO stays in the business across the year. Debbie is part of the recurring rhythm of tax planning, profitability review, and forward-looking decisions, which is where most of the financial value of the role actually shows up.
Engagements are structured around what the business needs, with the flexibility to scale up around a tax season, a transition, or a growth push, and to scale back when the demand settles. The goal is a long working relationship, not a contract that locks anyone in. See how the engagement works.
Choosing the right KPIs is easy. Looking at them on schedule is the work.
